Behind the Ribbon

The Overhead Door™ Brand, together with its
distinctive Ribbon
Distributor network, are celebrating their
100th anniversary.

In 1921, the Overhead Door Corporation was founded by C.G. Johnson in Detroit, MI.
For over 100 years, the Overhead Door™ Brand has stood for product quality and expertise, as well as professional service.
Owing to C.G Johnson's effort, the brand had established its distributor (sales agency) network throughout the country at the very beginning stages. The distributors were called “ribbon distributor” due to the company's easily recognized iconic Red Ribbon logo and “The Genuine. The Original.” slogan.
The ODC group's sales business is supported by its dedicated network of more than 450 Overhead Door™ Distributors, providing not only products but also superior service and expertise to consumers.
The ODC group and its distributors, bonded by the ribbon, have together 100 years of history and relationship, let us focus more on what significance does the Ribbon have.

For Customers

- A Trustworthy, Reliable brand with Longevity.

Study by McKinsey found that the average life-span of companies listed in Standard & Poor's 500 was 61 years in 1958. Today, it is less than 18 years.
Then, we have The Overhead Door Company of Cortland™, officially started in 1952 by G. Allan Marsted, the Marsted family's relationship with the Overhead Door Corporation began much earlier.
George C. Marsted was born in Flekkefjord, Norway in 1883 and came to the United States in 1901. For a number of years Mr. Marsted worked as a general contractor in Verona, New Jersey. After becoming associated with C. G. Johnson, founder of the Overhead Door Corporation, Mr. Marsted established the Overhead Door Company of New York in 1924.

The Overhead Door Company of New York manufactured and distributed sectional doors under license from the Overhead Door Corporation. The manufacturing plant was originally located in Canastota, New York and moved to Cortland, New York in 1928. George was later joined by his sons Paul C. Marsted and G. Allan Marsted. The Marsted family distributed Overhead Door™ brand doors across New York and New England for forty years. Numerous distributorships in the Northeast were “set up” or “sponsored” by the Marsted Family.

As the family approach the 100 year anniversary of their relationship with Overhead Door Corporation, they are proud to have the fifth generation already in training.

For Distributors

- A sense of Honor, Togetherness and Bonding.

We loved telling kids
when my dad drove down
the street in his red,
yellow, and orange striped
El Camino that we were
Overhead Door.

When it comes to taking pride in their job, there is no better example than Melonie San Filippo and her team and family at the Overhead Door Company of Sacramento™.
Having grown up at the company, the red ribbon was a huge sense of pride and family to Melonie.
“We played make believe office at the office. We hoarded Overhead door pens, and literature so we could play pretend business. We loved telling kids when my dad drove down the street in his red, yellow, and orange striped El Camino that we were Overhead Door. We both developed a work ethic by coming to Overhead Door on Saturdays when we were broke. ”

Melonie, now the owner and V.P. of Marketing of the company, also has special feelings for Ribbon Distributor Meetings,
“We were blessed to travel because of Overhead Door conventions. We went to locations that other kids had never heard of. We watched my grandfather and my father be called on stage time and time again to be honored throughout the years. It taught us about striving to be the best. To treat people well. To honor your word. We looked up to them. We still look up to them.”

Shawn San Filippo, owner and president of the company and husband of Melonie, told their son Logan upon joining the company, "When you are here you represent more than yourself. You work for that red ribbon on your shirt. It's bigger than any of us, and it incorporates all of us"

This sense of togetherness is not unique to the family members.
Anthony Allen has grown up at the company, and he has been quoted saying, “we bleed the ribbon.” Anthony is the V.P of Commercial Sales of ODC of Sacramento now.

When you are here
you represent more
than yourself. You
work for that red
ribbon on your shirt.
It's bigger than any of
us, and it incorporates
all of us.

For the Community

- More than just business

This company has
been supported by the
community and we
plan to pay it back for
many years to come

Overhead Door Company of Colorado Springs™ was nominated for the prestigious Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. This honor highlights the local distributor's devotion to supporting the Guard and Reserve personnel in Colorado Springs.
Ever since the establishment of the company in1957, they have continued to support the community, in forms such as through their annual food drive for Care & Share Food Bank and the annual toy drive to support Kenzi's Causes.
“We employ hometown staff at all our locations. We are proud to represent a national brand and still operate each like a local company, because they are,” said Steve Pascuzzi, President of DH Pace, the current parent company of ODC of Colorado Springs™.
“Colorado Springs is one of our locations with the strongest brand awareness. This company has been supported by the community and we plan to pay it back for many years to come.”

A ribbon distributor is not just your ordinary sales agency, they are indeed the strong point of the ODC group. The ribbon means authorization from a company which has been successful for 100 years and a bond to fellow distributors all across North America. We are supported by our communities and we are determined to pay them back not only with our products and services, but also building the next 100 years into a bright future together.
