Coexistence with Local Communities / Social Contribution

Policy / Basic Approach

The Sanwa Group's business activities are closely rooted in local communities in 28 countries and regions around the world, including Japan, North America, Europe and Asia. We offer products and services that provide safety, security, and convenience to further contribute to the prosperity of society. As a good corporate citizen, we aim for coexistence and co-prosperity with local communities, as we contribute to the community by returning to society the resources--such as the technology, human capital, products, and knowhow--that the Group has cultivated.

The Sanwa Group Compliance Code of Conduct contains the following basic policy on social contributions.

The Sanwa Group in conjunction with Our Mission and Our Value engages in activities for making contributions to society, making full use of its originality. Furthermore, we have arranged a support system for employees who want to do volunteer work, and in addition, when a natural disaster or other major disaster occurs, we proactively consider support actions for recovery of the affected region or donation of monetary assistance.

  • We seek to make broad contributions to society by expanding interaction with the local community, and proactively participating and cooperating in local community activities.
  • We contribute to the development of the local community through employment and acquiring of raw materials.
  • Through our products and services, we will strive to prevent, reduce and repair damage caused by natural disasters, thereby helping to maintain a safe and secure local community.
  • When a natural disaster or other major disaster occurs, through cooperation with the region affected, we participate to the full extent of our ability in support activities as quickly as possible.

We recognize that the planet, local communities, and people must be healthy and sustainable for us to fulfill our mission: "safety, security and convenience." Based on this perspective, we are working on these focus areas: social contributions in global environmental conservation, nurturing younger generations, and contributions to local communities' development and diversity. In addition, we give emergency assistance in regions affected by major natural disasters.

Contributions to local communities' development and diversity

Promoting the use of local materials

Wooden partitions using locally produced cedar lumber
Toilet booths made from local lumber

As a pioneer in wooden partitions, Sanwa System Wall, which joined the Sanwa Group in 2017, produces and markets wooden partitions made with locally produced lumber. This enables us to contribute to the revitalization of the local forestry industry and to be involved with building schools beloved by the community. In recent years, an increasing number of schools have selected wooden partitions made from local lumber to improve the learning environment, build ties with the local community, and to help preserve the environment. In 2017, Sanwa Shutter Corporation donated seven toilet booths to Tokushima Prefecture that featured doors made from Aizome (indigo-dyed) Tokushima cedar. These booths are the product of a joint development with a local company with technologies for dyeing wood with indigo. Aizome is a traditional industry of Tokushima Prefecture. The combination of the beautiful grain of Tokushima cedar and depth of the indigo color produces a calming effect. The surface is clear coated to improve water resistance and durability.
